The hyenas gather the night before the full moon. Much like the rest of their modus operandi, there is very little ritual there unless the Oba decides she wants it; the Devouring in general, in fact, is simply what sets the hyenas apart from the other lycanthropes in terms of dignity and respect -- it's sex, eating, and fighting, generally all at once, a free-for-all in which the Oba smacks everybody around and hurts at will and redisplays her dominance over the entire pack. There is no hunt: the hyenas scavenge. They are controlled by what the oba wills -- if she wants them to go and mess around by the river or scrounge around in the garbage tip, that's what they do. New hyenas have a sharp learning curve. If they are too foolish or too needy, their lives generally end at their first Devouring.
Really, the Devouring is a mess of sex, pain and bitchslapping: nothing less, nothing more.
